Day 27 The Purification of Wealth: Understanding the Significance of Zakat-ul-Fitr

On this twenty-seventh day of Ramadan, as we approach Eid-ul-Fitr, let’s delve into the important obligation of Zakat-ul-Fitr. This act of charity purifies our fast and ensures that those less fortunate can also celebrate Eid with joy.

What is Zakat-ul-Fitr?

Zakat-ul-Fitr is a special form of charity that is obligatory for every Muslim who has the means to give it. It is paid before Eid-ul-Fitr prayer and serves as a purification of one’s fast during Ramadan.

The Significance of Zakat-ul-Fitr:

  • Purification of Fasting: It purifies our fast from any shortcomings or errors committed during Ramadan.
  • Providing for the Needy: It ensures that the poor and needy can also celebrate Eid with food and joy.
  • Expression of Gratitude: It’s an expression of gratitude to Allah (SWT) for enabling us to complete Ramadan.

  • Amount: The amount is typically equivalent to one “sa’a” (approximately 2.5 kilograms) of staple food, such as dates, wheat, barley, or rice.

  • Intention (Niyyah): Make a sincere intention to give Zakat-ul-Fitr for the sake of Allah (SWT).
